The Review:

I've always said that there should be a wing food truck. After watching the movie Chef, I thought perhaps I should just do it myself, but thankfully, I don't need to worry about putting in the work myself anymore as the Double Dub's food truck has arrived to the Milwaukee area! Double Dub's operates other trucks across the US, but to my knowledge this is the first in Wisconsin. As an added bonus, their schedule has them primarily rotating through local breweries! While mobile wings going to breweries sounds fantastic, it won't matter much if the wings aren't good, so let's find out!

I've visited Double Dub's twice. The first time was by running into them by random chance on a Saturday at Ope! Brewing. The second time was a planned effort to catch them at Lions Tail Brewing on a Thursday. As this is a food truck, they are mobile and without an entirely fixed schedule, so make sure you check their Facebook page or other socials to know when and where they'll be. While I do not believe they have a discounted price "wing night," they do have some wing and side combos of varying price. Otherwise, for the most part wings are $1.50 each. *As always, prices/availability of menu items/prices and/or specials are subject to change at the sole discretion of the bar without the knowledge of Milwaukeewings.com and may not be updated accordingly.*

Double Dub's offers a long list of flavors and dry rubs on their menu, plus a couple of special flavors as well. Regular menu sauces include: Buffalo (heat levels 1-4), BBQ, Hot BBQ, Cinn-a-bee, Garlic Alfredo, C-19, Spicy Bleu, Spicy Vegetable, Habanero Mustard, Screamin' and Chicken. Regular dry rubs: Lime Pepper, Fuel, Salt Blend, Dry Rub, Naked, The Double V, Kickin' Ranch. While I think there were a few special sauces, I was dumb and failed to write them down, the only one I remember (because I ordered it) was Dill Pickle.

On both occasions I've had Double Dub's the wings were served up piping hot with plenty of sauce. The first occasion the wings were perfectly crisply, the second occasion just a bit less so, but I'm being a bit nitpicky there, there were fantastic both times. The wings themselves are quite large as well, both times I hit my limit right around the 10-wing mark, so no puny wings here. Our thoughts/impressions on each sauce below:

C19: Described to us as Corona Lime, this is a mild buffalo with a bit of a zesty lime kick, not sure I got any Corona taste, but also not sure I want that taste in a wing/sauce. Not my personal fave, but a fun twist.

Tots, Habanero Mustard, and SO MUCH BLUE CHEESE!!!

Buffalo II - The second level of heat for their Buffalo sauce. A beautifully tangy, spicy, and buttery buffalo sauce that really hits every note of a good buffalo sauce. A decent spice, but nothing crazy, I'd personally put this in the medium category.

Spicy Blue - the above Buffalo sauce, but with generous portion of blue cheese crumbles on top. And when I say generous, I mean GENEROUS. Seriously, so much blue cheese! And super creamy blue cheese that got all soft and semi-melted from the heat of the wings. If you're a blue cheese lover, you have to try these. If you hate blue cheese, well, still try one, maybe you'll change your mind! This one was my favorite.

Habanero Mustard - I vote this flavor gets it's name changed to sinus blaster 3000. For whatever reason, I find anything mustard based to be way hotter than any hot sauce of a similar heat, but that doesn't mean I don't like it! This sauce was deliciously spicy with the added bunch of tangy mustard heat! Great flavor, but not sure my sinuses could take a full order of them!

Dill Pickle - one of the special flavors, this was a fun one indeed. That same buttery and tangy buffalo from before, but with a dill pickle vibe provided by a bunch of fresh chopped dill. A fun twist on a familiar sauce.

Kickin' Ranch - this one rated a 3 on their 1-5 heat scale, which seems pretty aggressive for any flavor with Ranch in its name. However, it was accurate as this was probably hotter than anything above aside from the Habanero Mustard. This flavor blended a spicy dry rub with some ranch seasoning flavors, that just seemed a bit lost to me. I got the heat and a nice taste from that, but didn't taste much in the way of ranch, but dry rubs rarely turn out as well as I'd hoped

The MKE Wings Crew's Favorites:

Frank: Spicy Blue

Amber: Buffalo II

Ross: Spicy Blue

Molly: Dill Pickle

Conclusion:

Well, it's not a traditional wing joint, it's definitely a wing joint we'll be back to! Great wings that are getting served up at some places to get some great beers, a perfect combo! Also, while I try to keep the review very wing-focused, Double Dub's tater tots were absolutely stellar, so there's that too. I think I'll add to this review as I return and try out some new sauces, but for now, they are absolutely a Milwaukee Wings Certified Wing Joint! If a few more sauces turn out to be as good as a few mentioned above, might very well be on the way to Hall of Fame status!
